Patch Management - Knowledge base

Patch Configuration Failure - "Draft Download Failed"

Problem

You are trying to deploy patches of Microsoft/other vendors. However Patch Configuration fails with error message: "Draft - Download Failed".

Cause

The possible reasons could be:

  1. The patch configuration you have applied contains a Java Update. You may be using a Desktop Central build earlier to 70107, that does not support Java Updates.
  2. Proxy might not have been configured. (or) Authentication provided in the proxy settings does not have necessary privileges to download EXE files.
  3. You do not have access to download EXE files from the respective Software Vendor site.

Resolution

  1. Upgrade the Desktop Central Server in the existing computer if your build number is earlier to 70107. Visit Download and install to upgrade to the latest hotfix.
  2. Add the proxy settings. Go to Admin --> Proxy settings --> Type the appropriate user name and password along with IP. The user specified should have the permission to download the exe file.
  3. Given below are the list of the sites from where Desktop Central downloads the patches. The proxy credential supplied should have access to download the executbles from these sites:
    1. http://download.microsoft.com - for Microsoft applications
    2. http://download.cdn.mozilla.net/  - for Mozila Firefox & Mozilla Thunderbird
    3. http://ardownload.adobe.com  - for Adobe patches
    4. http://fpdownload.macromedia.com  - for Adobe Shockwave Player
    5. http://fpdownload.adobe.com  - for Adobe Flash Player
    6. http://airdownload.adobe.com - for Adobe AIR
    7. http://javadl.sun.com  - for Java updates
    8. http://support.apple.com/ - for Mac OS updates & JRE 1.6
    9. http://cache-download.real.com - for Real player
    10. http://*.oracle.com/ - for JRE 1.7
    11. http://downloads.sourceforge.net/ - for Open Office
    12. http://dl.google.com - for Google chrome s
    13. http://appldnld.apple.com - Quick time player, Itunes 
    14. http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp - for Mozilla Firefox 3.6
