AdventNet today announced a new release for its flagship
product, the Web NMS 4.7 that includes Internet Protocol version
6 (IPv6) support. The IPv6 is the next-generation protocol
designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) will
gradually replace the current version of the Internet, IPv4.
The IPv6 fixes a number of problems in the IPv4, such as limited
number of available addresses, and also adds improvements
in areas such as routing and network auto configuration.
The IPv6 support in the Web NMS comprises of a client/server
communication between the v4/v6 devices and v6 node, discovery
of nodes via IPv6 layer and modeling of v6 nodes. Additionally,
it includes reception of traps from v6 devices, status polling
and data collection. These IPv6 features enable Web NMS deployments
to seamlessly occur in either v4 or v6 environments. Other
Web NMS 4.7 features include, Web client support for administration
functions, database supports for MySQL 4.0.17, Solid BoostEngine
4.10.0124 and FireBird. Other improvements consist of performance
enhancements that discover 255 nodes in less than two minutes;
DHCP client management supported for non-SNMP clients and
an enhanced security framework with several other GUI additions.
"IPv6 with its expanded capabilities like addressing,
auto configuration, security architecture and quality of service
is seeing plenty of traction in the market and we are pleased
to meet our customer and industry needs by supporting this
important protocol," said, Shailesh Kumar, Vice President
of Engineering at AdventNet.
