Chunghwa Telecom Leverages AdventNet Web NMS Management
Platform for Rapid Development of Its Unified Management Solution
Pleasanton, California, September 15, 2003
AdventNet, Inc., the leading provider of carrier-class network
management platforms and tools, today announced that Chunghwa
Telecom, a principal telecommunications and information-related
services provider in Taiwan and offshore islands, has developed
a unified management solution called Quality Management System
(QMS) for managing its multi-vendor, multi-technology
network using the AdventNet Web NMS platform.
Web NMS is a carrier-grade network management platform with
out-of-the-box support for a rich set of standard protocols
such as XML, SNMP, TL1, CORBA, TMF, CLI, and RMI. It encapsulates
a highly scalable RDBMS architecture for data integrity and
persistency and supports comprehensive FCAPS functions, Topology,
Inventory, and Provisioning. It serves as a unified platform
to manage heterogeneous network infrastructures with multi-vendor,
multi-technology network elements. It integrates seamlessly
with other EMS/NMS systems and other northbound OSS systems
and applications.
"Using Web NMS, we were able to achieve a closely-knit
infrastructure at a fraction of the cost and time compared
to other alternatives. With this approach, our network architects
and operations personnel can increasingly focus on their core
tasks - network planning and design, evolution and operations
to extract the highest quality, reliability, availability
and performance from our networks, and maximize the ROI from
our infrastructure investment," said Ms. Li Hsiou Wu,
Chief Researcher at Chunghwa Telecom.
Support excellence is one of AdventNet's core competencies.
"AdventNet supported us through a dedicated offshore
engineering team ensuring the completion of the design, development,
and deployment of QMS ahead of our ambitious schedule,"
said Dr. Casper K Chen, Associate Researcher, Leased Line
Operations Group. "The responsiveness of the AdventNet
Support Team was without doubt, commendable," added Chih
Wei Chang, Project Senior Researcher, Broadband Service Design.
"The carrier environment at companies, such as Chunghwa
Telecom is continually growing in size and complexity, which
drives the need for greater control through more automated
management and centralized operations," said Sridhar
Vembu, CEO of AdventNet. "The Web NMS product provides
an essential management platform for ensuring the effective
delivery of services, enabling Chunghwa to remain competitive."
Chunghwa Telecom engineers were able to rapidly develop their
management solution - QMS, using Web NMS to manage network
elements from Nortel Networks, Alcatel, and NEC among others.
QMS integrates seamlessly with other management applications
and OSS systems. QMS leverages Web NMS' framework strengths
to offer central storage capability for Fault and Performance
Management (PM) data, data integrity, and persistence. It
enables consistent visualization capabilities for alerts,
PM data, and open standards-based architecture.
