There are not enough access rights to the msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll files on the machine where ManageEngine OS Deployer Agent is installed
Symptoms
- Using ManageEngine OS Deployer Management console you try to connect to a remote machine that has ManageEngine OS Deployer Agent installed. The connection fails with following error message:
Computer "Name" is not found
- Trying to manually start the ManageEngine OS Deployer Remote Agent service on the remote machine results in the following error message:
Could not start the ManageEngine OS Deployer Remote Agent service on Local Computer
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
(!) To try starting ManageEngine OS Deployer Agent manually, the following needs to be done:
- Click Start -> Run;
- Type services.msc in the command prompt and hit Enter;
- Right-click on the ManageEngine OS Deployer Remote Agent line and choose Start in the pop-up menu.
- Checking Windows Event Viewer on the remote machine with ManageEngine OS Deployer Agent shows the following entry:
The ManageEngine OS Deployer Remote Agent failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.
(!) To check Windows Event Viewer, the following needs to be done:
- Click Start -> Run;
- Type eventvwr.exe in the command prompt and hit Enter;
- Click System;
- Click the respective Error entry that has Service Control Manager as Source.
Cause
The Windows account under which ManageEngine OS Deployer Agent was attempted to start did not have access rights to the following Windows system files:
Solution
Give Read and Read & Execute rights for the msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll files. Then start the ManageEngine OS Deployer Remote Agent service.
- On the machine where ManageEngine OS Deployer Agent fails to start, do the following:
- Go to %WINDIR%\system32;
- Right-click on the msvcp71.dll file;
- Click Security;
- Add Users group;
- Select the added Users group and check the Read and Read & Execute boxes;
- Click OK;
- Give the same rights for the msvcr71.dll file.
- Start the ManageEngine OS Deployer Remote Agent Service:
- Click Start -> Run;
- Type services.msc in the command prompt and hit Enter;
- Right-click on the ManageEngine OS Deployer Remote Agent line and choose Start in the pop-up menu.
