Prerequisites for monitoring HP MSA Array

• OpStor uses the HP SMI-S MSA Provider based on SNIA standard to monitor the HP MSA
• The MSA provider can be installed on any server running Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows 2003 Server
• This server must have a path through the SAN to the MSA devices that will be managed.
• Also the server must be reachable from the server where OpStor is installed
• Download the HP SMI-S MSA Provider from the HP site at

• Installation details for the MSA Provider are available in the above page
• HP SMI-S Support Matrix document available at http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/smis-matrix.html
• Ensure that MSA firmware version is compatible with the installed SMI-S provider
• Start the MSA Provider service, say, hp StorageWorks SMI-S CIMOM from the Windows services menu

Steps to add HP MSA Array in OpStor

• Navigate to Admin Tab --> Manage Storage Devices link in OpStor client
• Provide IP Address of server where HP MSA CIM Agent is running
• Choose the Device Type as 'RAID'
• Choose the Vendor as 'HP'
• Choose the Model as 'MSA'
• In Username field enter the MSA Provider username
• In the Password field enter the MSA Provider password
• Provide the Port number at which the CIM Agent is running(5989 or 5988)
• Choose whether the SSL should be Enabled(https) or Disabled(http)
• Provide the name space (by default root/hpmsa)
• Enter the timeout
• Click on Add Device

Note : If the Ping facility is disabled for the device, then please uncheck 'Ping the given IP' field.
Note : In case of non discovery of the device, please follow the troubleshooting tips displayed in the webclient and try re-adding the device.
