How do I disable IPv6 for client computers that have the operating systems Windows 7 and Windows Vista installed in them?

Description

Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) is a version of the Internet Protocol (IP) which has replaced IPv4. In computers that have Windows 7 or Windows Vista installed in them, IPv6 is installed by default. This can be disabled using the Registry Settings configruation in Desktop Central. This document provides you with steps required to disable IPv6 for client computers that have the operating systems Windows 7 and Windows Vista installed in them.

Steps

To disable IPv6 for client computers that have the operating systems Windows 7 and Windows Vista installed in them, follow the steps given below:

  1. Click the Configurations tab
  2. Click Configuration
  3. In the Computer Configurations section, select Registry Settings
  4. Enter a name and description for the configuration
  5. In the Define Configuration section, enter the following information:
    • Action: Write Value
    • Header Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    • Sub-Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip6\Parameters
    • Data Type: REG_DWORD
    • Value Name: DisabledComponents
    • Value Data / Expression: 255
  6. Choose a target

Note: Choose the computers that have Windows 7 and Windows Vista installed in them.

  7. Configure the execution settings as required
  8. Click Deploy

You have disabled IPv6 for client computers that have the operating systems Windows 7 and Windows Vista installed in them. The settings will reflect in the client computers during the agent's 90-minute refresh cycle, during startup or during logon—whichever takes place earlier.
