How to set the admin credentials required to run the Desktop Central server in computers that have Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 installed in them?

Description

This document is applicable only if you have installed the Desktop Central server on a computer which has Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 installed in it. You must set admin credentials before you run the Desktop Central server. Ensure that you do the following:

  • Specify admin credentials or user credentials with administrative priveleges to run the Desktop Central server on a computer that has either Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 installed in it. Ensure that the Desktop Central server is run using the admin credentials that you specify
  • Specify the user name and password of a user account that has administrative privileges on the computer where the Desktop Central server is installed. The user specified here can either be a domain user or a local user with admin privileges.
  • Set the password of the user to 'Password Never Expires'. If the password of this user is changed, the Desktop Central server will not be able to start as the credentials will be incorrect.

Steps

To set the admin credentials required to run the Desktop Central server in computers that have Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 installed in them, follow the steps given below:

  1. Click Start and point to Settings
  2. Click Control Panel
  3. Double-click Administrative Tools>Services
  4. Right-click ManageEngine Desktop Central 7 and click Properties
  5. On the Logon tab, select This account
  6. Enter the new account name and password
  7. Enter the same password in the Confirm password field
  8. Click OK
  9. Right-click ManageEngine Desktop Central 7 and click Restart

You have set the admin credentials required to run the Desktop Central server in computers that have Windows Vista, Windows 2008, Windows 7 or Windows 2008 R2 installed in them.
